"It started with a survey, next a prayer, then an invitation at no other place but Tiong Bahru Plaza – outside Mac near Christmas. Life was meaningless before that day, but a 360 degree turn for me since then.
"I was the only child at home, the youngest grandchild in the entire family. The relationship between my parents was poor since I was young. Each night my parents would disagree, argue, fight. “Ask your dad to leave!” was the most memorable quote that I could remember from the past at the age of 4.
"Nights were filled with sorrow, anger and hatred until my mum finally left home one day. That night I tear, questioning my dad – where is mummy? Where is mummy? His nonchalance attitude leaves me deeper in tears and sense of loss. However, unknown to all, my mum came back for me one day. From that day onwards I never heard of my dad. My mum and I moved from place to place – a rented place to my uncle house, then my grandmother's place. Life was unstable, uncertain and definitely unhappy.
"After a period of time, my mum finally got a flat and both of us live an isolated yet peaceful life. All was well, except that my mum was seeing a guy whom I always know as uncle. The relationship was complicated, and both my mum and I draw apart. I never felt that anyone would understand me, loved me, nor concern about me. So I resorted to self-attainment, I studied to prove that I could do without my family's concern. Life was filled with anger, hurt and hatred. I hated the life I lead, the family that I was in. I compared with my friend's family, parents, and possessions. Whatever my friends had, I make sure I get the best, the latest, and the most expensive. Until he found me and my mum . . .
"After my mum accepted Christ, both of us felt that there was a calling to move back to live with my dad. Obediently, we did. Though living with my dad, I did not recognize his presence until I acknowledge God was my Father. There were many times that I struggled, despised my father, made comparison and false assumptions. Yet God's love never fails, he was there with me, to teach me, guide me and most of all love me.
"To date, my relationship with my parents had since improved tremendously. I've learned to love them as who they are, and accept who they truly is. Though there are still major and minor arguments, I thank god that he had restored my family. And hope that you may uncover the blessings he have for you. All it takes is a little step of faith to believe and trust! God bless you."
