Workshops
Friday, 28 December 2007, 1 - 3.30pm

The workshops in this conference are designed with a special focus on equipping you to help others with real issues in this real world!

W1. A Different Worldview

Shaped by our unique upbringing, every person grows to see and interpret the world differently. Effectiveness in getting the gospel message therefore hinges largely hinge on how you can successfully engage your friends through their worldviews. Come and learn what today's predominant worldviews are, and how to navigate spiritual conversations through the epochal shift in the questions people are asking.

W2. Singapore-based religions

We live in a multi-racial society that emphasizes religious harmony. We are surrounded by friends and family members with different religious faiths. Sharing Christ with them is a challenge because we don't know much about what they believe in! In this workshop, you will learn about the fundamental differences between these religions and how to share Christ effectively with someone of a different faith.

W3. Gender issues – homosexuality. CANCELLED

A recent research by Focus On The Family found that, through religious mediation, it is possible to change a person's sexual orientation. You may have friends who struggle with homosexuality, or perhaps, you may have been tempted to 'cross over to the other side' yourself. Is homosexuality a condition of nature or nurture? Is it possible to break free? Come find out more and be equipped to help someone struggling in this area.

W4. Addiction

Addiction? Nah... That's not me.

How do I spend my time? Well...I spend quite a bit of time on the Internet. Ok, maybe a little more time on gaming. And a little bit too much on TV and shopping...but it is all to de-stress! How will I cope if I don't have these little pleasures in life?!

... Addiction? Maybe. But how much is too much? Is there any way for me to trace the fine line between healthy de-stressing and unheathy dependence. How do I extricate myself before it is too late? Can someone help?!

W5. A house or a home

What do you get back to everyday: a house or a home? The family is meant to be a place of shelter, protection, nurture and love. But sometimes, if doesn't turn out this way: abuse, divorce, absent parents, single-parent...the family we are born into could be far from perfect. These childhood hurts can leave their marks in our adult life. Left unresolved, they sometimes become the emotional baggage that we carry all through adulthood. You can't go back in time. But you can move towards a better future. Come discover the effects of the family in one's life and how one can grow through them.

W6. Reaching the changing world

Thought-provoking short films produced by students for students – this visual witnessing tool opened the door hundreds of students in Singapore and overseas to hear the gospel presented through evangelistic concerts last year. 5 people indicated decisions to receive Christ through an evangelistic website in the first 2 months of its launch.

You too can help reach the changing world with the unchanging gospel! If you are interested in using these tools to reach your community, this workshop is for you. Hear the experts share their strategies and learn how to adapt them for your community.

W7. Personal purity

Purity. That's a word we don't hear often nowadays. But it's something many of us struggle with, alone. Whether the temptation comes in the form of web pornography, or fantasizing, these real struggles are often times treated as taboo subjects in Christian communities. This workshop gives a honest and compassionate treatment of the issues of purity. Candid, heart-to-heart and non-judgmental, you will benefit from it as well as learn how to help your friends understand how to deal with it.

W8. The right one

Love, love, love! We love it yet are troubled by it. Love is sweet, but sometimes it just gets too complicated! How do I know if he or she is the right one? What should I consider before taking the plunge into a relationship? If you are considering these questions, this workshop is for you!

W9. Handling emotions

We go through life experiencing a whole host of emotions: anger, loneliness, fear and grief. Even when we tell our friends about it, we sometimes get the feeling they don't really understand. If you are on the receiving end, you might have found yourself tongue-tied and not sure what to say.

How do we manage our emotions without either repressing them, or letting them out of control to become a destructive force in our lives? How do you walk through with someone who is going through such hard times? Discover all these in this workshop!

W10. Clinical & psychological issues in depression CANCELLED

You do not need to be a statistician to notice the upward trend in depression cases. Singaporeans are a stressed-up lot: we work hard and are constantly on the go. But in the midst of the pressure, many find the pressure challenging and are barely able to cope. Depression, bulimia, anorexia and other symptoms are cries for help. Do you know someone who is struggling in these issues? Perhaps you are at a lost at how to help him or her walk through these issues. Come and learn about the help rendered for depression from the angle of clinical and psychological view-point.

W11. The steps to freedom

Christ has given us victory at the cross, but the fact is, we also bring into our Christian lives baggages from the past: unforgiveness, non-Christian spiritual experiences, lies and bondage to sins. However, the road to freedom is not impossible! The Bible promises in John 8:32 that "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Do you know the truth about your freedom in Christ? Come, start on the road to true freedom!

W12. Cults & occults

You may have had the chance to talk with someone whom you suspect is from a group of deviated teachings. While you can't quite put your finger on it, their theology seems 'strange' and the Bible they use looks different. But you don't really know to refute their 'seamless' arguments.

How much do you know about the cults and occults? In this workshop, you will be exposed to the occult and deviant teachings. At the end of the workshop, you would also have learnt how to expose and refute the false teachings.

Have you ever been dumbfounded how you can tell your friends about who Jesus is? Here's a website you can introduce your friends to know more about God. Just hyperlink them to http://www.EveryStudent.com in your blog or website. There's a range of topics from the existence of God to testimonies of students who had struggles with sex and pornography.
