“Phew, I’ve made it through the first half of the year. Another 5 more months to go…”
Has the year been passing by so quickly that you’ve no time to breathe? Or has it been too slow that you’re getting sick of it already? Are you stressed out by having to perform all the time—for your parents, your school, yourself?
Stress is a popular catch-all term for the pressures or tension—or causes of pressure and tension—that humans feel. The prevalence of stress as a topic of discussion and best-selling books, as well as our broad application of this term, reflects our confusion about how we should view stress and how we should respond to it. Regardless of the reasons, stress is having increasing impact on students, regardless of age. Stress is both common and morally neutral (in a sense). What’s important is how to deal with stress as Christian students.
Jesus once said to his disciples and followers, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30) Today, he is still calling you to rest in him. It is hard to not worry but there is a better way out than to just keep worrying.
What will your choice be today?

A day at the Beach
It’s the June holidays, so what better way to spend it than a day at the beach! And that’s what we decided to do! A Student Venture outing at the beach.
We started the day with a short worship by the beach. Then, Timothy from Hwa Chong Instituition and with his cousin lead us into a time of games! And boy was it fun! It was hot too! First off, we played charades. And it on the hot sand! So trying to guess what the other person was acting out became a real challenge after a while.
After that, Timothy introduced some form of strategy game to us. The objective of the game was to try and bring the candle from a source and light up the candles in a designated area. However, there was a challenge and that was the fact that there were 2 teams and we had to beat the other team to lighting up all the candles. Also because we could blow out the opponent’s candles while the opponent was traveling made it more fun and a whole lot more challenging! At first we divided into a all guys team and all girls team, but halfway through the game decided to mix the group up. But in the end, the team with more girls won!
After the game, everybody was a bit exhausted so we decided to have some rest. After the rest, we played ultimate Frisbee. This was the normal Frisbee but played competitive style. The teams have to pass the Frisbee to one another and reach the opposite team’s lines to score a point. (Like in rugby games). We played for about 20mins. And the winning team even had prizes!
By then, everybody was hungry and so we retreated to the foodcourt at Vivocity where there was air-conditioning and had our lunch there. All of us were so tired by the end of the outing, but it was a great day of fun.
